CotEditor is a light-weight text editor that does what it's supposed to do: quick startup, syntax highlighting, outline menu, and very good handling of text encodings. As a user who frequently deals with Japanese plain text, that last point is one of the primary reasons I love this editor. Also, the optional sidebar displays just the right amount of information.
